The same areas that were hit hard by storms on Sunday night are facing more danger this morning.
Areas north of Houston are under a flood watch today. The potential for flooding rain is high. The timing is late tonight lasting through tomorrow morning. Rain amounts in our northern cities may range from 5″-8″. In Houston we’ll get a range of 1″-4″. There is also a severe weather threat for damaging winds.
This comes after Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo requested a voluntary evacuation for several areas in northeast Harris County along the East Fork of the San Jacinto River.
Mandatory evacuations were issued for parts of Polk County living along the Trinity River and low-lying areas below the Lake Livingston Dam.
We have already seen high water rescues. Eight people and 23 dogs were rescued from rising floodwaters in two incidents along the San Jacinto River.
In preparation for tonight’s weather, Governor Greg Abbott has increased the readiness level of the Texas State Emergency Operations Center to Level II (Escalated Response) as the state prepares ahead of severe weather and flooding threats over the next several days.
“Texas stands ready to quickly deploy all available resources necessary to help communities across Texas as severe weather and flooding impacts our state,” said Governor Abbott.
