A fresh, funny take on the children’s classic that will entertain the parents as much as the kinds

This ain’t your mom’s Snow White. Snow, played by Phil Collin’s daughter, Lily, is not a victim. She’s an activist and heroine. She not only doesn’t lay passive waiting for Prince Charming, she fights with and for him. Snow isn’t quite as kick-ass as Katniss in The Hunger Games but hey- this one’s for the little ones and their parents.

Julia Roberts is delish as the evil stepmom. Never once does she ask, "Who’s the fairest of them all?" Told you- this is not the Snow White from your childhood. Prince Charming is played by Arnie Hammer, last seen as J. Edgar Hoover’s love opposite Leonardo Dicaprio in J. Edgar.

There are lots of laughs – some just for the adults. Plus- it’s visually beautiful . I have to say this is one of my 5 faves of the still newish year. What a great message for young girls. Parents- don’t send the babysitter with the kids for this one.

3 stars
